Julia MacMahon

Doula Guild Steward & Boston Pod Co-Leader

About Me:

I am an end-of-life doula, death educator, and social worker with more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit and community settings. I believe in reclaiming end of life as a passage we navigate together, grounded in relationship, compassion, and community.

Through Estuary End-of-Life Care, I support individuals and families in approaching death with greater clarity, connection, and dignity. My work draws on my background in social work, facilitation, and community-based practice, with a commitment to making end-of-life care more accessible, relational, and grounded in community.

What I want the Guild community to know about me:

I’m interested in how we can build community-rooted ways of caring through dying and grief, especially as formal systems of care fall short. I’m particularly passionate about green burial and supporting parents of young children navigating mortality and loss.

I co-lead Living While Mortal, which creates spaces for honest conversations about death and what matters most. As The Doula Guild’s Steward and Boston Pod Co-Leader, I’m committed to strengthening our collective practice, fostering connection among doulas, and expanding access to end-of-life care. I also manage our member profiles and calendar to help doulas find and connect with one another.
